Box Score CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Franklin & Marshall was defeated by Washington 69-55 on Saturday afternoon in women's Centennial Conference (CC) basketball action. The Diplomat slipped to 5-16, 2-12 CC, while the Shorewomen jumped to 7-14, 4-10 CC.
Early on in the first half, F&M held a slight 12-10 edge with 13:23 remaining. The Diplomats extended the lead with five straight points, including an Anajha Burnett 3-pointer followed by an Erica Brown layup, and took a 17-10 advantage at the 12:31 mark.
For the remainder of the first half, the Shorewomen took control, playing tough defense to go along with a 25-8 offensive spurt and took a 35-25 lead heading into intermission.
Coming out of halftime, F&M put together a 10-6 run, capped off by another Burnett triple, to bring the Diplomats to within six points at 41-35. From there, Washington put F&M away with a 16-4 run that the Diplomats could not recover from, as the Shorewomen went on to win by a score of 69-55.
Burnett lit up the stats sheet, finishing with a career-high 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting, and adding a 3-for-5 mark from behind the arc, while dishing out eight assists. Brown registered 16 points and 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Sarah Haddon was also in double figures in points with 12.
Emily Hubley paced Washington with 15 points, while Ali Grundy and Carley Kendall each recorded 12 points.
F&M held the edge in field goal percentage at 37.9-36.8, while the Shorewomen outrebounded the Diplomats 51-37.
F&M returns to action on Wednesday when the Diplomats host Ursinus at 6:00 p.m.
