Box Score CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Gabby Frank scored six goals and handed out three assists to lead No. 1 Franklin & Marshall to a 19-9 victory over Washington in the Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats improved to 8-1, 2-0 CC with the win while Washington fell to 4-3, 0-1 CC.
Paige Moriarty finished with two scores and five helpers while Emily Everdell and Brittney Jorgenson both finished with a hat trick. Paige Moriarty and Grace Saliba each netted two goals and Hannah Serling, Casey Madden along with Kimberly Abruzzo all struck once. Natalie Delinsky, Ryann Laible, Megan Kelly and Anastasia Mergner all ended with an assist.
F&M jumped out to an early 7-0 lead 10 minutes into the game, before Washington got on the board with two straight goals to make it 7-2 at 16:20. Moriarty answered for F&M with back-to-back scores and Frank found the net at 8:43 to put F&M up 10-2. Emily Hubley scored twice for the Shorewomen and an up-goal by Washington with 46 seconds left made it 10-5. The Diplomats countered 10 seconds later when Megan Kelly found Frank to give F&M an 11-5 lead at the break.
Washington came within five with an early score in the second before Frank finished off a pass from Moriarty a minute later. The Shoremen made it 12-7 at 26:08 and the Diplomats responded with five straight and took a 17-7 lead at 20:01. Saliba started the run with two straight and Everdell finished it off with three in a row. Hubley scored her fourth goal before Abruzzo and Serling struck three minutes apart for the Diplomats and the Shorewomen put the final points on the board with just 20 second left to play.
Vanessa Budd paced the defense with four ground balls and three caused turnovers and Abruzzo caused two of her own. Natalie Delinsky had five ground balls and Mergner finished with five draws and three ground balls.
Danielle Harrington improved to 4-1 with four saves and Haylee Solomon took the loss with eight stops.
F&M outshot Washington 39-20, held a 27-16 advantage in ground balls and went 10-for-13 in clear attempts.
The Diplomats return to action on Wednesday when F&M hosts Bryn Mawr at 4:00 p.m.
