Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – No. 4 Franklin & Marshall outscored Brockport State 4-1 in the opening five minutes of the second half to break a 7-7 tie and cruised to a 21-11 victory in women's lacrosse action Sunday afternoon at Tylus Field. The Diplomats remained undefeated this season at 4-0 while Brockport dropped to 0-1.
Paige Moriarty started F&M's second-half run with two goals almost two minutes apart to put the Diplomats in front for good. Grace Saliba found Moriarty at 28:10 for the first score before Anastasia Mergner connected with her at 26:13 for the second tally. The Golden Eagles found the net at 25:48 to come within a goal, 9-8, before Saliba and Emily D'Erasmo scored unassisted goals nine seconds apart for an 11-8 F&M lead.
Brockport came within two, 11-9, at 24:02 and the Diplomats answered with five straight in a 10 minute span to go up 16-9. Jessica Boddery stopped the run at 13:57 and the Diplomats tacked on two more with goals from Saliba and Siobhan Burke for an 18-10 advantage. The Golden Eagles' final tally came at 9:49 and the Diplomats finished the game strong with three unanswered.
The Diplomats started the game with three goals in the opening 11 minutes of action for the early lead. Moriarty put the first point on the board off a feed from Mergner and later found Gabby Frank for the second goal of the contest. Megan Kelly scored unassisted at 18:50 and the Golden Eagles answered with a 4-0 run and took a 4-3 lead at 10:52. Emily Everdell tied the game 37 seconds later before Brockport picked up a pair to go back on top, 6-4, with 4:54 left until halftime.
F&M answered with two of its own on goals from Moriarty and Brittney Jorgenson to tie the game at 6-6. Haily Boronczyk gave Brockport a 7-6 edge with 54 ticks on the clock and Everdell connected on a free position shot with 33 seconds left to send the game into the break tied at 7-7.
Moriarty connected on all five of her shots and finished with five goals and one assist to lead the Diplomats. Everdell had three scores while Kelly, Jorgenson and Saliba each struck twice. Frank, Hannah Serling, Christie Huidekoper, Natalie Delinsky, Kimberly Abruzzo and all finished with a score. Casey Madden handed out a game-high four assists while Saliba and Mergner finished with two apiece.
Kelly caused three turnovers and came away with four draws while Samantha Blicht and Vanessa Budd each caused two turnovers for the Diplomats.
Danielle Harrington came in at the start of the second half and turned away six shots to pick up her first collegiate win while Remle Harr was saddled with the loss with four saves.
F&M outshot Brockport 31-23, held a 15-11 edge in ground balls and were successful on 17-of-19 clear attempts.
The Diplomats return to action on Thursday when F&M hosts Lebanon Valley at 4:00 p.m.
