No. 6 Diplomats Advance to CC Finals with Victory over Washington

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Paige Moriarty finished with six points on two goals and four assists and led No. 6 Franklin & Marshall to 15-8 victory over Washington in the Centennial Conference (CC) Semifinals Saturday afternoon at Clark Field in Gettysburg.

The Diplomats will face fourth-ranked Gettysburg, a 20-8 winner over Haverford, in tomorrow's championship game at 3:00 p.m. at Clark Field. The game will mark the 12th time the two teams have faced off in the CC Championship with F&M winning five times and the Bullets six.

F&M went on the board first with a goal by Emily Everdell and the Shorewomen answered with two straight and took a 2-1 edge six minutes in the game. The Diplomats countered with four straight and went ahead for good. Gabby Frank kicked off the run with she buried a feed from Moriarty and Anastasia Mergner put the Diplomats up 3-2 before Brittney Jorgenson netted back-to-back scores in under a minute for a 5-2 F&M advantage.

Washington came within two, 5-3, and the Diplomats responded by outscoring the Shorewomen 3-1 in the final 13 minutes of the second half. Moriarty, Emily D'Erasmo and Grace Saliba all scored for the Diplomats to make it 8-4 at the break.

The Diplomats quickly went up 10-4 in first nine minutes of the second half on score by Frank and Morairty and added another pair after a Washington score for a 12-5 lead. Everdell and Natalie Delinsky scored the goals for F&M and the Shoremen matched with two of their own and came within five, 12-7, with 11:38 left in the contest.

F&M responded with three straight and took a 15-7 lead with a little over five minutes left in the game. Kimberly Abruzzo kicked off the spurt with a tally at 11:18 and Casey Madden made it 14-7 before Grace Saliba finished the run off with a score a 5:11. The Shoremen snuck one through 10 seconds later for the final point of the game.

Frank, Everdell, Jorgenson, Saliba and Morairty all finished with two scores while Delinsky, Abruzzo, Madden, D'Erasmo and Mergner each struck once. Moriarty led with a game-high four helpers while Hannah Serling, Delinsky, Abruzzo, and Kelly all handed out an assist for the Diplomats.

Danielle Harrington picked up the win and improved to 7-1 with nine saves and Madeline Mullen took the loss with seven stops.

F&M outshot Washington 26-24, held a 17-8 advantage in draws and went 16-for-17 in clear attempts.
