Box Score READING, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team kicked off its 2015 season by playing to a 0-0 draw with Penn St.-Berks on Tuesday night. The result moves both teams to 0-0-1 on the year.
Penn St.-Berks came out strong in the first half, taking a 6-1 advantage in shots after the opening frame. However, the Diplomats combated the Nittany Lions' abundance of shots by commanding a 4-1 lead in corner kicks over the first half. Two Caroline Letner saves got the Diplomats to halftime with the score tied, 0-0.
The Nittany Lions continued to dominate the shot count in the second half, logging eight attempts on goal while F&M managed only two. The Diplomats again edged Penn St.-Berks by winning the only corner of the second half. However, neither team was able to score and the game advanced into extra time.
Penn St.-Berks managed five more shots in the overtime periods, but was still unable to break the deadlock.
Letner collected seven saves on the evening as the Nittany Lions led the total shot count 19-4. The Diplomats held the advantage in corners at 5-2, but required only one save from Penn St.-Berks' keeper Paige Elmy.
Meghan Byrne, Kim Kornbluth, Kate Kerr, and Lauren Kranis all fired a shot for the Diplomats. Kerr's effort found the target and produced Elmy's lone save.
The Diplomats return to action on Saturday when F&M travels to Lebanon Valley for a 1:00 p.m. matchup with the Flying Dutchmen.
