Bullets Too Much For F&M

Box Score

LANCASTER, Pa. – Gettysburg slowly pulled away from a resilient Franklin & Marshall team to defeat the Diplomats 71-58 on Wednesday night in Centennial Conference women's basketball. F&M fell to 6-18, 4-13 CC with the loss while the win took the Bullets to 17-5, 11-5 CC.

Gettysburg came out of the gates fast, racing to a 16-5 lead with 4:27 left in the first. The Diplomats responded with a 10-2 run, capped off by a three-point play from Sarah Haddon and a three from Haley Pilone to narrow the deficit to 18-15 with 2:12 left in the opening frame. After one, the Bullets held a slim 20-15 edge.

Haddon and Erica Brown contributed four points each as F&M cut the Gettysburg lead to 25-23 with 5:47 left in the second, but the Bullets put together a 10-0 run of their own to extend a 35-23 lead with 31 seconds left before halftime. Lindsey Powers knocked down a triple with 10 seconds remaining to keep the Diplomats within striking distance, and at halftime Gettysburg retained a nine-point, 35-26 advantage.

Haddon scored 13 in the first half, while Brown added six.

Four more points from Haddon kept F&M within ten early in the third, but an 18-4 Bullet run opened up a deficit of 23 with less than two minutes remaining in the third. A pair of free throws from Sarah Pisani with one second left shortened the lead, but after three Gettysburg held a comfortable 58-40 lead.

F&M finished the fourth on a 7-0 run, but it proved to be too little, too late as the Bullets won by 13.

Haddon led the Diplomat offense, notching 19 points. Brown finished with 14, and Powers reached double-digits with 12.

Pisani tied a career-high with nine assists in addition to four points and three rebounds. Haddon recorded eight rebounds to pace F&M on the glass, while Powers contributed seven.

Jessica Porter tallied a game-high 21 points to lead Gettysburg, followed by Emily Gibbons with 16 and Emma Dorshimer with 10.

The Diplomats return to action on Saturday in the final game of the regular season, hosting Dickinson at 1:00 for Senior Day.
