Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. - Gabby Frank and Paige Moriarty scored five goals each to lead No. 3 Franklin & Marshall to a 15-5 victory over Ithaca in women's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at Tylus Field. F&M improved to 4-0 while the Bombers dropped to 1-2.
Samantha Blicht assisted Moriarty a little more than a minute into the game to put F&M up 1-0, and the Bombers answered 18 seconds later and tied the game at 1-1. F&M countered with two straight and took a 3-1 edge at 23:37. Maddie Hughes connected with Moriarty for the first tally before Grace Saliba found Natalie Delinsky for the second score. Ithaca scored two goals in a span of two minutes and tied the game at 3-3 and the Diplomats responded with three unanswered to take the lead for good. Moriarty had two goals in the run and Frank picked up the third to make it 6-3 at 14:11.
The Bombers came within two, 6-4, with 12:05 left to play and the Diplomats closed out the half with two goals. Claire Jackson fed Frank for the first score at 6:34 and Anastasia Mergner struck on a free position to give F&M an 8-4 lead at the break.
Ithaca came within three early in the second before the Diplomats netted seven unanswered to close out the game. Frank scored two to start the run and Delinsky made it 11-5 at 17:17. Jackson found Moriarty for her fifth score of the game at 15:15 and Blicht fed Frank for her fifth almost four minutes later. Saliba fed Mergner at 9:29 and Taylor Freud found Jackson at 7:01 to give F&M the 10-goal lead.
Frank and Moriarty paced the offense with five scores while Mergner and Delinsky finished with two scores each. Saliba handed out four assists and Jackson, along with Blicht, finished with two helpers apiece. Hughes, Freud, and Delinsky all finished with one assist each.
Stephanie Speese paced the defense with four caused turnovers and three ground balls and Vanessa Budd ended the day with three caused turnovers, three ground balls, and two assists. Sarah Bozzo caused two turnovers for the Diplomats.
Kaitlin Hardt improved to 1-0 with six saves, and Emily Ross took the loss with four stops.
F&M outshot Ithaca 35-18, held an 18-14 edge in ground balls and went 18-for-24 in clear attempts.
F&M returns to action on Thursday when the Diplomats take on Denison and Plymouth State in Bayamon, Puerto Rico.
