Box Score 2 COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall softball team hit the road on Tuesday afternoon for a pair of contests with Centennial Conference (CC) foe Ursinus, dropping game one 3-2 before winning the nightcap 5-2. The Diplomats now stand at 11-7 overall and 1-3 CC, while the Bears moved to 8-10, 2-2 CC.
Ursinus started the scoring in the opener, tallying a pair of runs in the bottom of the third. Bears' starter Kaitlyn Wells held F&M scoreless until the top of the seventh, when Megan Ryan's single to centerfield scored Samantha Clemens, who was joined at home by Sam Burns after an Ursinus error.
However, the Diplomats were unable to force extra innings as the Bears scored in the bottom of the seventh to win 3-2.
Katie Wenger (6-2) took the loss for F&M, giving up two earned runs on five hits along with four strikeouts.
Ryan reached base twice, recording a walk and a hit as well as the lone Diplomat RBI.
F&M did not have to wait for offense in the second tilt of the day, pushing three across the plate in the top of the third. Ryan again had the big blow, knocking in two with a double to center.
Ursinus responded with two in the bottom of the third, but were never able to fully erase the deficit as Diplomat hurler Isabel Schaefer held the Bears scoreless into the seventh. Ryan entered to get the game's last two outs, earning her first save of the season.
F&M extended its advantage in the fourth inning as Alexa Smedberg's bunt single plated Kelly Van O'Linda to make the score 4-2. In the sixth, a single from Taylor Long drove in Crystal Good, pushing the score to its final position, a 5-2 win for the Diplomats.
Schaefer (4-4) notched the win for F&M, allowing two runs (zero earned), seven hits, and two Ks. Ryan faced three batters, recording two outs, both via strikeout.
Ryan went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs to again pace the Diplomats, while Long finished 2-for-3 with one RBI.
F&M returns to action on Saturday, playing at home for the first time this season when McDaniel comes to town for a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m.
