Diplomats Dominate Devils

LANCASTER, Pa. – No. 4 Franklin & Marshall cruised to a 15-3 victory over Dickinson in Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon in the regular season finale. F&M improved to 17-1, 9-0 CC while the Red Devils dropped 9-7, 5-4 CC. 

F&M went up 1-0 early in the game when Grace Saliba found Katie Groenke at 29:06. Dickinson tied the game a few minutes later before the Diplomats rattled off three straight and took the lead for good. Anastasia Mergner started the run at 23:55 and Gabby Frank fed Caroline Kolva at 17:33. Vanessa Budd found Mergner to end the run two minutes later and the Red Devils managed a goal at 12:08.

The Diplomats countered with five unanswered and took a 9-2 lead into the break.  Paige Moriarty found Claire Jackson to kick off the run and Maddie Hughes, Saliba, Claire Jackson and Moriarty all scored in the run.

The Red Devils made it 9-3 early in the second, but the F&M defense stepped up and kept Dickinson off the board the remainder of the game.  F&M finished the game strong with six goals. Moriarty had the first two in the run followed by Kolva and Saliba before Claire Miller found Moriarty and Aly Saliba to close out the game.

Caroline Doran, Stephanie Speese, Mergner and Sarah Bozzo all caused two turnovers for the Diplomats. Mergner added four ground balls and Speese along with Danielle Harrington collected three ground balls for F&M.

Harrington improved to 14-0 with 12 saves in the cage and Tara Cuddihy was saddled with the loss with six saves.

F&M has a slight 24-23 edge in shots, held a 22-16 advantage in ground balls and went 21-for-26 in clear attempts.

Seniors Kaitlin Hardt, Caroline Doran, Stephanie Speese, Samantha Blicht, Anastasia Mergner, and Grace Saliba were all honored before the game.

F&M returns to action next Saturday when the Diplomats host the CC semifinals. Game time will be determined Monday afternoon.
