Box Score WESTMINISTER, Md. – Paige Moriarty finished with seven goals and three assists, and Gabby Frank had four goals with three helpers to lead No. 5 Franklin & Marshall to a 20-5 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) action Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats improved to 11-1, 4-0 CC and the Green Terror dropped to 5-6, 2-2 CC.
McDaniel scored first early in the game, but F&M answered with nine straight and took the lead for good. The Green Terror made with 9-2 with 1:20 left in the first half, before a handful of goals were scored in the final 1:09 of the opening frame. Anastasia Mergner started the flurry with an unassisted tally at 1:09 and finished off a pass from Maddie Hughes 21 seconds later for an 11-2 lead. McDaniel scored with 23 ticks on the clock, but Mergner found Moriarty with just nine seconds on the clock to make with 12-3 at the break.
The Diplomats quickly went up 13-3 when Grace Saliba fed Moriarty 43 seconds into the final frame and after a goal from McDaniel, F&M rattled off three straight and took a 16-4 lead at 22:07. The Green Terror put its final point on the board at 19:03 before the Diplomats closed out the game with four unanswered.
The 10 points for Moriarty is a career-best for the sophomore while Frank's four tallies bring her to within three scores of reaching 100 career goals. Saliba finished with two goals and three helpers and went over the 200-career point plateau. Mergner had two scores and an assist while Claire Jackson, Natalie Delinsky, Maddie Hughes and Bridget O'Donnell all finished with a goal and an assist. Caroline Kolva, Taylor Freud and Aly Saliba each record an assist for the Diplomats and Yen Baker finished with a goal.
Mergner came away with six draws and caused two turnovers, and Vanessa Budd collected four draws for the Diplomats. Sarah Bozzo caused two turnovers and Frank led F&M with three ground balls.
Danielle Harrington improved to 8-0 with the win and finished with three saves while Katelin Johnson took the loss with six stops.
F&M outshot McDaniel 44-12, held a 21-9 edge in ground balls and went 12-for-14 on clear attempts.
The Diplomats return to action on Tuesday when the Diplomats host Messiah at 4:00 p.m.
