Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – Up just a point with 18:24 left in the game, No. 4 Franklin & Marshall scored seven straight to defeat Dickinson 13-6 in the semifinals of the 2016 Centennial Conference (CC) Women's Lacrosse Championship.
The Diplomats improved to 18-1 and will face the winner of Gettysburg and Washington in tomorrow's championship game at 4:00 p.m. If F&M faces Gettysburg, it will be the 13th meeting between the two schools with each team winning six championships apiece.
F&M took an early 3-0 lead with two goals from Grace Saliba and a goal from Claire Jackson. Dickinson made it 3-1 at 12:52 before Anastasia Mergner struck unassisted to put F&M up 4-1 at the 11-minute mark. Sam Marmo brought the Red Devils within two, but Gabby Frank found Jackson at 7:19 to give F&M a 5-2 lead at the break.
Saliba connected with Frank early in the second but the Red Devils countered with three straight to come within a goal, 6-5, at 22:04. F&M answered with its game-deciding 7-0 run to secure the victory. Frank started the run at 18:24 and Moriarty netted an unassisted goal eight minutes later before Saliba found Frank with a little less than five minutes left for a 9-5 lead.
Jackson buried a pass from Frank to make it 10-5 before Moriarty netted back-to-back goals for a 12-5 F&M advantage. Frank finished off a pass from Natalie Delinsky for the Diplomats final point and Dickinson managed a score with 31 seconds left to play.
Frank led the offense with four goals and three assists, Moriarty scored three times with one helper and Saliba had two goals and two assists. Jackson added three scores and Mergner finished with one.
Vanessa Budd had three caused turnovers with three ground balls; Stephanie Speese also caused three turnovers while Sarah Bozzo ended with two.
Danielle Harrington improved to 15-0 with seven stops and three ground balls and Tara Cuddihy took the loss with eight stops.
F&M outshot Dickson 32-23, held a 22-11 edge in ground balls and went 17-for-19 in clear attempts.
