Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's women's soccer team battled but came up short in a 2-0 loss against Ursinus on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference (CC) action.
The Diplomats fell to 3-5, 0-2 CC while the Bears improved to 3-4-1, 1-1 CC.
Twenty minutes into the game Kelly Rosen sent a corner into the near side of the box that connected with Phoebe Sharp, who sent a header into the top-right of the goal for the 1-0 Ursinus lead.
The Bears led the first half with an 8-1 edge in shots and a 7-0 advantage in corners.
F&M's offense picked up the pace after the break and nearly knotted the score just eight minutes into the stanza when Reanna Leoni caused a turnover deep in the Ursinus defensive third and sent a left-footed strike to the far post.
Goalkeeper Courtney Sullivan made a diving lunge to her right and got a hand on the attempt, punching the ball wide of the net.
In the 64th minute, Ursinus put the game out of reach for good when a loose ball in the box bounced off an F&M defender and landed by the Bears' Kendall Couch, who sent a right-footed shot into the lower left of the goal.
Nicole Savidge (2-3) was charged with the loss after registering four saves while Courtney Sullivan (3-4-1) earned the win with three stops.
Shots favored the Bears at 13-7; however, the edge belonged to the Diplomats at 6-5 in the second half. Sam Springer paced the offense with two attempts.
F&M returns to non-conference competition on Wednesday, welcoming Lancaster Bible to Tylus for a 6:00 p.m. game.
