Two Second Half Surges Lift Diplomats over Bullets

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall used two second half runs to erase a 30-19 halftime deficit and defeated Gettysburg 62-58 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action on Thursday evening. The victory is the sixth-straight for F&M as the Diplomats improved to 13-5, 7-4 CC while the Bullets dropped to 5-13, 4-7 CC. 

Gettysburg took an early 11-6 lead five minutes into the contest and F&M answered with a 5-2 spurt and tied the game at 13-13 with 6:59 on the clock. The Bullets countered by going on a 13-2 run and took an 11-point lead, 26-15, at 4:15. The Diplomats came within seven on two free throws by Matthew, but the Bullets netted the final four points of the half and took a 30-19 lead into the break.

Hunter Eggers had six points to pace F&M in the opening half and J.C. McGrath chipped in five.

The Bullets increased their lead to 15, 36-21, with 15:58 remaining in the game, but the Diplomats went on a 16-0 run over the next four minutes and took a 37-36 lead off a Matthew Tate three. Gettysburg quickly retook went back out front and held a 50-45 advantage with a little less than four minutes left to play.

F&M answered again and outscored Gettysburg 14-3, with two triples from Lior Levy, over the next three minutes and went ahead by six, 59-53, with 31 ticks on the clock. Gettysburg was forced to foul and the Diplomats hit 3-for-4 shots from the line to secure the victory.

Jared Wright led F&M with 12 points, hitting 3-of-5 from the field and 5-of-6 from the line. Brandon Federici ended with 11 while Eggers and Levy both netted 10. Tate added nine with four assists for F&M. 

Mlyune Reeves led Gettysburg with 21 and Danny Duffey reached double figures with 11.

F&M returns to action on Saturday when the Diplomats host McDaniel at 3:00 p.m.
