F&M Falls to Muhlenberg

LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's volleyball team fell to Muhlenberg Wednesday evening 3-1 (25-22, 23-25, 19-25, 20-25) at the Mayser Center.

The Diplomats dropped to 15-7, 6-2 CC while the Mules improved to 21-4, 6-1 CC to and took the second place spot in the CC standings.

With the score tied at 6-6, a kill from Barbara Kapustin started the Diplomats on a 3-0 run culminating in a service ace from Cassie Garison to bring the score 9-6. The Mules were able to counter and went on a 9-1 run to take the lead. F&M recovered and a Garison kill tied the set at 16-16. The Diplomats recovered and ended the frame with back-to-back kills from Casey Morrow and Christine Yoo to take the first. 

F&M kept the pace to start the second set with a service ace from Grace Maggiore bringing the score to 4-0. Muhlenberg was able to tie the set at 6-6, but a Grace Polisano kill sparked the Diplomats on a 5-0 run to extend the lead 15-9. The Mules were able to regain control and finish out the set with a win at 25-23.

Errors from Muhlenberg helped the F&M to a 4-0 lead to start the third frame. The Mules recovered to take the lead at 10-8, but an ace from Kapustin tied the set at 10-10. The Mules went on 5-1 run to take the lead at 16-11 and maintained the momentum to finish out the set 25-19.

Play remained even to start the fourth frame with the score once again tied at 6-6. Muhlenberg looked to be pulling away, extending a lead to 20-13, but a kill from Yoo started F&M on a 5-0 run to come within two at 20-18. The Mules countered and finished out the set strong to take the match.

Sophomore Polisano led the offense with a double-double of 11 kills, 11 digs, and four service aces. Kapustin set the pace 13 kills, eight digs, and one ace. Maggiore tallied 40 assists and nine digs. Senior libero Shae Murphy recorded a team-high 15 digs on the night. 

F&M returns to action, traveling to Juniata on Friday for a tri-match against Susquehanna and the host Eagles with matches at 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., respectively.
