LANCASTER, Pa. – Lily Mynott's OT goal propelled No. 13 F&M over No. 17 York 3-2 on Tuesday evening at Tylus Field.
F&M improved to 13-2 while York dropped to 11-5.
Ilianna Santangelo came up with a big save in the opening minute of overtime play to keep the Diplomats in the game. Mynott tallied her second goal of the day, six minutes into the first overtime period off a breakaway pass from Annie Horsley to give the Diplomats the win.
F&M came out to a fast start the contest, dominating shots in the first minutes of play, but the Spartans were the first to get on the board in the game with a goal in the ninth minute.
Mynott tied the game in the 23rd minute making a strong move past a defender to the left of the field and sliding the ball into the back of the cage to bring the score to 1-1.
Play remained tight for the rest of the half with score remaining tied going into the break.
The Diplomats came out fast, earning a penalty corner in the first minute of the second frame and Erin Coverdale was able to take advantage, taking the lead 2-1 off a pass from Sarah Schannauer.
The Spartans were able to recover and evened the game at 2-2 with a goal from Greta Plappert in the 48th minute.
Both teams fought for the rest of the half with scoring opportunities coming with each possession. F&M had four scoring opportunities in the final three minutes of regulation play with three shots from Coverdale and one from Sydney Cole but were unable to find the back of the cage.
F&M led in shots 26-14 while penalty corners were tied at 11-11. Santangelo tallied seven saves for the win and brought her record to 13-2 while Spartans goalie Sam Keating recorded 11 saves with the loss bringing her record to 0-2.
The Diplomats return to action on Saturday, traveling to Johns Hopkins for a 4:00 p.m. game that will decide the top-seed in CC playoffs.
