Diplomats Fall in Season Opener

LEXINGTON, Va. – Washington & Lee defeated Franklin & Marshall 9-3 on Saturday afternoon in women's lacrosse action. The Diplomats fell to 0-1 while the Generals improved to 3-0.

The Generals took an early 2-0 lead midway through the first before the Diplomats answered with two straight and tied the game at 2-2. Paige Moriarty found Maddie Hughes at 12:21 for the first tally and Natalie Delinsky connected with Moriarty at a 4:46 for the second score. The Generals tacked on two more and went into the break with a 4-2 advantage.

W&L increased their lead to 7-2 with three early goals in the opening minutes of the second. Delinsky netted an unassisted goal at 7:26 to bring F&M with four, 7-3, at 7:26. The Generals responded and closed out the game with two unanswered to secure the win.

Danielle Harrington took the loss with five stops and dropped to 0-1 while Elliot Gilbert improved to 3-0 with six saves.

F&M held an 11-3 advantage in draws and went 16-for-17 in clear attempts.

The Diplomats return to action next Saturday when F&M hosts York at 1:00 p.m.
