CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Hannah Serling scored three goals and dished out an assist to help lead No. 9 Franklin & Marshall to an 11-4 victory over Washington in Centennial Conference (CC) action Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats improved to 12-4, 6-1 CC while the Shorewomen fell to 9-5, 4-3 CC.
It was all F&M in the first half as the Diplomats led 5-0 heading into the break. Paige Moriarty found Serling twice in 40 seconds to give F&M an early 2-0 lead before Vanessa Budd struck at 18:42. Gabby Frank fed Moriarty at 14:00 and Danielle Wilson made it 5-0 with a tally at 7:59.
The Diplomats opened the second with three straight with goals by Frank, Maddie Hughes and Serling. Washington finally lit the board at 22:27 and Moriarty answered at 11:46 to make it 9-1. The Shorewomen scored twice and came within six, 9-3, but Katie Groenke found the net at 5:21 and Eileen Cuneo buried a pass from Hughes for F&M's last point of the game.
Serling's three scores and one assist along with Moriarty's two goals and two assists paced the offense. Budd led the defense with four caused turnovers and four ground balls and Serling added three caused turnovers and five ground balls to her stat line. Melissa Judge had six draws for F&M.
Danielle Harrington improved to 11-4 with six saves and Haylee Solomon took the loss with 18 stops.
F&M outshot Washington 40-20, held a 13-4 edge in draws and went 18-for-20 on clear attempts.
F&M wraps up the regular season next week when the Diplomats travel to Dickinson for a 4:00 p.m. game on Wednesday, before hosting Muhlenberg on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
