Diplomats Take Down Muhlenberg in Regular Season Finale

LANCASTER, Pa. -- No. 10 Franklin & Marshall took down Muhlenberg 17-10 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon. F&M improved to 14-4, 8-1 CC while the Mules dropped to 13-3, 7-2 CC. The victory, combined with a win by Gettysburg, sets up a rematch between the two schools in the semifinals of the CC Tournament next weekend at Gettysburg. Game time will be determined on Monday afternoon.

Before the game, 11 seniors were honored as they played last regular season game on Tylus Field. The 2017 class includes: Peyton Annese, Yen Baker, Sarah Bozzo, Vanessa Budd, Siobhan Burke, Rachael Consoli, Natalie Delinsky, Gabby Frank, Taylor Freud, Claire Jackson and Hannah Thomas.

Muhlenberg took an early 2-0 lead before Maddie Hughes struck at 24:19 and the Mules answered with two more for a 4-1 lead at 18:15. The Diplomats responded with a 5-0 run and took a 6-4 edge with 4:03 left in the first. Hannah Serling scored two in the run with goals from Vanessa Budd, Natalie Delinsky and Gabby Frank. The Mules countered with two straight to close out the half and tied the game at 6-6 heading into the break.

The Diplomats opened the second with a 3-0 spurt and took the lead for good. Danielle Wilson started the run off a feed from Paige Moriarty and Moriarty found the net a minute later to make it 8-6. Serling buried a pass from Moriarty at 27:50 for the final point of the run, but the Mules tacked on two to come within a goal, 9-8, at 23:28. 

F&M put together another 3-0 run with goals by Caroline Kolva, Delinsky and Siobhan Burke to put the Diplomats ahead 12-8 with 11:39 left to play. After a score from the Mules, Burke struck on a free position for a 13-9 edge. The Mules put their last point on the board at 6:39 and F&M closed out the game with four unanswered. Grace Norley, Serling, Hughes and Yen Baker all scored for F&M in the final run. 

Serling paced the offense with four goals and two assists and Moriarty struck once while handing out five assists. Budd and Bozzo caused three turnovers each to pace the defense and Bozzo added four ground balls. Rachel Consoli came away with three draws and collected two ground balls for F&M.

Danielle Harrington picked up the win in goal with four stops and improved to 12-4 while Sara Allison took the loss with nine saves.

F&M outshot Muhlenberg 34-21, held a 15-5 edge in ground balls and went 17-for-17 on clear attempts.
