Diplomats Down Garnet to Close Out Season

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall closed out the 2017-18 season with an 85-64 victory over Swarthmore in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball on Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats improved to 10-15, 7-13 CC while the Garnet dropped to 

Kristin Hamill got the scoring started off the dish from Sarosha Parsons. Lindsey Powers followed with a three at the 8:00 mark to extend F&M's lead 5-2. Sparked by a layup from Sarah Pisani, the Diplomats went on a 13-0 run that included five points from Haley Pilone to bring the score to 20-4 with 2:45 left in the first. A Devandria Bernard jumper kept F&M's lead at 21 as the Diplomats finished out the quarter with a 29-9 advantage. 

A layup from Pilone got things going in the second quarter to bring F&M's lead to 22. Jen Cappucci found Parsons at the elbow for the jumper to keep the Diplomats' 33-11 edge with 8:31 left in the half. Emily Moran delivered the bench points with a layup at the 4:53 mark to keep F&M up 39-18. A Pilone three kept the 20-point lead in F&M's favor with 3:44 left to play. The Diplomats closed out the half with a 46-34 advantage.

Back-to-back layups from Hamill and Parsons extended F&M's lead to 13 with 7:39 left in the third quarter. Parsons knocked down a jump shot at the buzzer to keep the Diplomats 66-46 edge at the end of the third.

Hamill kept the 20-point lead off the assist from Powers to start the final quarter. Hamill paced the Diplomats with a layup off the dish from Anajha Burnett to bring the score to 77-59 with 2:21 left to play. Cat Weber delivered the and-one play to extend the lead to 22. The Diplomats finished the out the game to take the 85-64 victory. 

Hamill led all scorers with 26 and brought down seven boards. Pilone netted 20 points, shooting four-for-eight from behind the arc. Pisani dished out nine assists and dropped six points.

The victory marks the end of the 2017-18 campaign which saw the Diplomats finish out the season with a 10-15 overall record and a 7-13 CC mark.
