Diplomats Fall To Hamilton and Albright

CLERMONT, Fla. – Franklin & Marshall softball dropped a pair of contests Tuesday afternoon, first taking a hard-fought 6-5 loss to Hamilton and then falling to Albright 6-5 as well.

The Diplomats sit at 2-4 on the year while the Continentals garnered their first win of the year and the Lions evened out at 2-2. 

Game 1: Hamilton 6, F&M 5 – (7 Innings)

Hamilton got on the board with a one-RBI single in the first to take the 1-0 lead.

With one out in the third and Sam Clemens in scoring position, Lexi Piccinich notched a one-RBI single to right field to tie the game at 1-1. With Sammy Burns on second, Katie Wenger delivered a home run to right field to give F&M the 3-1 advantage.

The Continentals evened the score in the sixth inning with a two-RBI homer before notching three runs off two hits in the seventh to take a 6-3 lead. 

Erin Russell stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the seventh with one out and the bases loaded. Russell reached first on an error with Crystal Good crossing the plate. Piccinich followed, getting walked, to send Schaefer home and bring F&M within one, but Hamilton came away with a double-play to end the game with the 6-5 victory. 

The Diplomats delivered five RBIs off six hits with Clemens leading the way with a 2-for-4 performance. 

Schaefer (1-2) took the loss after pitching all seven innings, tallying three strikeouts. Claire O'Brien (1-0) secured the win after giving up no earned runs across the seven innings.

Game 2: Albright 6, F&M 5 – (7 Innings)  

F&M came out with a strong start, collecting four runs off of five singles in the first. Ryan Correa was the final Diplomat to cross the plate in the first off an Ella Glenn single. 

The Diplomats extended their lead in the second with Piccinich hitting a one-RBI single that allowed Clemens to cross home plate. 

Albright took the momentum in the third inning, batting around the order to gather five runs courtesy of two doubles and five total hits to even the score at 5-5.

The Lions broke the tie in the fifth, leading off the inning with a double that placed the eventual game-winning runner on base.

Wenger (1-2) was credited with the loss after pitching for 3 2/3 innings.

F&M takes the field tomorrow, taking on Ripon at 2:00 p.m. followed by a matchup with Becker at 7:00 p.m.
