F&M Splits with Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's softball team came back after a close 2-1 loss in the first game to defeat Haverford 8-0 in five innings in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Saturday afternoon.

The Diplomats came out at 6-10, 1-3 CC on the year while the Fords finished 11-3, 3-1 CC.

Game 1: Haverford 2, F&M 1 – (7 Innings) 

After three scoreless innings, F&M was the first to strike in the fourth. With a runner on first and third and one out, Ryan Correa singled to center field to send Lexi Piccinich home. 

Haverford responded in the bottom of the fourth tying the game at 1-1. The Fords extended their lead in the sixth with an RBI single to the infield.  

Haverford held the slight edge in hits at 6-5. Piccinich and Sammy Burns led the offense going two-for-three. 

Izzy Schaefer (3-5) pitched for six innings for the loss, delivering two strikeouts. Haverford's Temma Lewis (5-1) threw for seven innings, tallying four strikeouts. 

Game 2: F&M 8, Haverford 0 – (5 Innings)

F&M got the offense going in the third. Burns doubled to left field to place a runner on third and send Christine Miles across the plate. Correa followed with a two-RBI double to send all runners home and extend F&M's lead to 3-0. 

The Diplomats picked up the pace in the fourth, tallying five runs. With bases load and no outs, Sam Clemens doubled to left center to deliver Schaefer and Crystal Good home. Erin Russell followed with a two-RBI double to increase the deficit to 7-0. Burns dealt the final blow, sending Russell home to give F&M the 8-0 lead. 

F&M outhit Haverford 7-4 with Correa going two-for-three from the plate. 

Schaefer (4-5) garnered the win, pitching for five innings with one strikeout. Haverford's Briana Quinn (4-2) took the loss after throwing for three innings and recording one strikeout. 

Up Next

The Diplomats host Dickinson on Tuesday, April 3 for a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
