Second Half Spurt Leads F&M Past Washington

LANCASTER, Pa. -- A five-goal second half run erased a 6-5 deficit and lifted No. 5 Franklin & Marshall to a 12-9 victory over Washington in Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats improved to 13-3, 7-0 CC while the Shorewomen fell to 12-3, 6-1 CC.

The first half went back-and-forth as each team matched the other. F&M took an early 2-1 lead, before Washington tied the game at 2-2 with 8:08 left to play. Megan Jackson made it 3-2, but the Shorewomen matched again a minute later to make it 3-3. F&M closed out the half by outscoring Washington 2-1 and took a 5-4 lead at the break.

Washington opened the second with two straight and took a 6-5 lead at 27:22, but F&M countered with a 5-0 run and took the lead for good, 10-6, with 20:04 left to play. After a goal by Washington, F&M netted two straight, before Washington matched with two of their own to close out the game.

Jane Cote paced the offense with five assists, while Megan Jackson struck on three occasions and Grace Norley ended with two scores and one helper. Clare Monaghan had two goals and Paige Moriarty, Maddie Hughes, Nancy Taylor, Juliann Lisovicz and Brianna Gorman all scored once.

Anya Chopoorian ended with 11 draws and Maggie Hanzsche had two caused turnovers. Danielle Harrington turned away eight shots and collected four ground balls to pick up the win in goal and improved to 13-3.

F&M held a 26-20 edge in shots, took 15-of-23 draws and went 13-for-16 in clear attempts.

The Diplomats return to action on Wednesday when F&M hosts Dickinson at 4:00 p.m.
