F&M Falls to Arcadia

GLENSIDE, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's softball dropped both contests in a doubleheader against Arcadia on Thursday afternoon. Arcadia took the first game by a 6-4 tally before winning the second game 3-0. 

The Diplomats dropped to 17-19 on the year while the Knights improved to 20-12.

Game 1: Arcadia 6, F&M 4 – (7 Innings)

F&M came out strong to take a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Erin Russell got the offense going with a single through the left side. Lexi Piccinich followed with a single, but errors in the field placed the runners in scoring position. Sammy Burns delivered the blow with a two-RBI double to left center field. Katie Wenger struck with another double to send Burns home and extend the Diplomats' lead to three.

Arcadia responded with a run off two hits in the first. The Knights proceeded to record three more runs in the next two innings off seven hits to take a 4-3 lead at the end of the third.

Strong base running from Tiara Halstead to start the fourth got the Diplomats threatening with Sam Clemens notching the RBI single to the left side to even the game at 4-4. 

The Knights were able to take back the lead in the fourth with one run off two hits. Arcadia tallied one more run in the sixth after four straight singles to extend the deficit to two. 

Wenger led from the plate with a 2-for-3 performance with one RBI while Burns garnered two RBIs. Russell and Piccinich each went 2-for-4. 

Izzy Schaefer (13-9) was credited with the loss after throwing for 5 2/3 innings and recording four earned runs and two strikeouts. Arcadia's Mary Pat Murray (8-6) earned the win, tossing for six 1/3 innings with three strikeouts. 

Game 2: Arcadia 3, F&M 0 – (7 Innings)

Clemens opened the second game with a walk and advanced to second on a muffed throw to gain scoring position, but F&M was unable to convert on the early opportunity.

After a scoreless four innings, Arcadia exploded with three runs in the fifth off four hits, including a triple to take a 3-0 lead.

Clemens led the offense with a 2-for-2 performance from the leadoff position. Delaney Cochrane recorded as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning.  

Wenger (3-8) took the loss after pitching for six innings with four strikeouts. Arcadia's Kylee Schwind was awarded the win after throwing for seven innings with two strikeouts.

The Diplomats close out the regular season with a doubleheader at Washington scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
