Diplomats Blow by Green Terror

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Franklin & Marshall's women's basketball team delivered a decisive 66-48 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Tuesday evening. 

The Diplomats improved to 9-8, 6-6 CC while the Green Terror dropped to 10-8, 5-8 CC. 

Kenna Williams got the scoring going, tallying the first four points for the Diplomats while Sarosha Parsons knocked down a three to extend F&M's lead to five with just over five minutes left in the quarter. Kristin Hamill led the Diplomats on a 6-3 three run to close out the first with a 13-6 advantage. 

Haley Pilone tallied back-to-back layups to increase F&M's lead to 17-8 with 6:22 left in the half. Hamill converted on the and-one opportunity to bring the deficit into double-digits while Emily Moran knocked down two threes in less than 30 seconds to help the Diplomats to a 26-14 advantage at the break.

McDaniel came out with vengeance in the second half, notching seven-straight points to start the third quarter, but Pilone knocked down two free throws to start F&M on a 10-0 run over two minutes to increase the lead to 36-21. The Diplomats kept the pace while a three-pointer from Jennifer Falconiero and a layup from Alisyn Narracci helped F&M to a 7-4 run in the final minute, bringing F&M's advantage to 47-34 going into the final quarter.

A Pilone three-pointer at the 8:19 mark helped the Diplomats pick up right where they had left off while the jumper from Hamill brought the deficit to 21 with just over six minutes remaining. Sarah Pisani tallied four points in under a minute to keep the score at 63-44 with Narracci notching the final bucket for the Diplomats to bring the score to 66-48.

Williams (18) and Hamill (16) combined for 34 of F&M's 50 rebounds to dominate a 50-26 advantage on the boards. Pilone paced the offense with 14 points, but Williams and Hamill netted 13 a piece.

The Diplomats head to Baltimore on Thursday, Jan. 24 to take on Johns Hopkins at 6:00 p.m.
