COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Nicolette Runko scored a career-high three goals in a dominant 4-1 win over Ursinus by Franklin & Marshall's women's soccer team on Saturday.
The Centennial Conference (CC) road tilt improved the Diplomats to 6-5-1, 2-4 CC on the season while the Bears dropped to 3-7-2, 0-6 CC.
Runko's three goals were the most in a single game by an F&M women's soccer player since Cathy Terwillger also notched three in a 3-1 win over Millersville on Oct. 20, 1994.
The senior defender wasted little time getting the Diplomats on the scoreboard with her first tally of the game in the fourth minute. Meg O'Callahan sent a long ball to Runko, who tapped it past Ursinus' goalkeeper.
O'Callahan got in on the scoring in the 11th, launching a freekick from just outside the box and into the back of the net for the 2-0 edge.
Ursinus made it interesting heading into the halftime break, sneaking to within one with a solo score from Rachel Burcaw with just 34 seconds remaining in the opening period.
Runko padded the Diplomat lead at 3-1 in the 63rd when Lainie Anderson found the F&M captain with a well-placed cross that was headed in by Runko.
O'Callahan connected with Runko again in the 86th for the exclamation point on the Diplomats' three-goal win. A long pass from O'Callahan was settled down by Runko, who beat the 'keeper one-on-one for the tally.
Runko recorded nine shots, followed by O'Callahan with two.
Goalkeeper Sara Ghorashi (4-5) earned the win in net after stopping one shot in 90 minutes of play.
Gettysburg heads to town on Wednesday for a 4:00 p.m. matchup on Tylus Field.
