LANCASTER, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall dropped to No. 7 Muhlenberg 49-6 in Centennial Conference (CC) football action Saturday afternoon at Shadek Stadium. The Diplomats dropped to 3-2, 2-2 CC, while the Mules improved to 4-1, 3-1 CC.
First Quarter (F&M – 6 | MC – 14)
Muhlenberg took an early 7-0 lead after receiving the opening kickoff, going five plays, 70 yards in 1:49. F&M answered back on their ensuing possession, as Garrett Perschy hit Kevin Lammers for a 36-yard gain, then punched it in himself from two yards out with 8:45 left in the quarter. Jack Rodenberger's extra point was blocked, leaving the Diplomats trailing 7-6. Muhlenberg would answer immediately, going 53 yards in 1:05 to extend their lead to 14-6.
Second Quarter (F&M – 6 | MC – 42)
The Mules dominated the second quarter, scoring on all three of their offensive possessions. A blocked F&M field goal attempt with 1:25 remaining in the quarter was run back 88 yards for a 42-7 Muhlenberg lead at the half.
Third Quarter (F&M – 6 | MC – 49)
Muhlenberg put up the only points of the half on their opening drive, using a 33-yard toss to extend its lead to 49-6.
Fourth Quarter (F&M – 6 | MC – 49)
Neither side moved the football with consistency in the fourth quarter, as F&M turned it over on downs twice and Muhlenberg ran the final 5:18 off the clock to end the game.
Final Numbers
Joe Hartley-Vittoria gained 35 yards on 16 carries to lead the Diplomats, while Garrett Perschy ran for 21 and the lone F&M touchdown. Perschy went 16-for-28 for 168 yards under center, while Jack Donaghy completed a 67-yard bomb to Walt Wynkoop for his only completion.
Thomas Downs led the defense with eight stops (four solo), including one for a loss. Nick Leone, Peyton Snopek, and Kevonte Beard all finished with five stops apiece.
