Series History
F&M hosts St. Elizabeth for the first time on Sunday and will play either Mary Washington or Susquehanna on Monday. The Diplomats hold a 20-10 record against Susquehanna and are 1-0 against Mary Washington.
The Diplomats host Neumann on Saturday for the fifth matchup between the teams with F&M leading the all-time series 3-1.
Tournament History
The idea of what is now the Sponaugle New Years Tournament was originated in March 1966. The idea was to create an event that would bring together area college basketball teams in an annual "tip-off" tournament. This year marks the 51st Tournament.
The first tournament was played in December 1967, seven months after S. Woodrow "Woody" Sponaugle passed away. With the permission of his family, the tournament was named in his memory. Traditionally a tip-off tournament, this is the 13th time in 15 years it starts off the new year to mark the end of the holiday break, and the start down the road toward Salem.
Tickets
Tickets for the tournament are: $6 for an adult per day and $3 for students w/ I.D. per day.
Last Time Out
F&M ended the first half of the season with a 90-81 double-overtime win over Dickinson.
