Diplomats Take Two in Saturday Twin Bill

LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's volleyball team took a pair of victories on Saturday over Haverford, 3-1 (27-25, 23-25, 25-20, 25-18), and Scranton, 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-15).

The Diplomats improved to 12-2, 3-0 CC, while Haverford is now 14-4, 1-1 CC and Scranton is 9-7 overall.

Match 1 – F&M 3, Haverford 1

The Diplomats began their day with a Centennial Conference match against Haverford.

F&M was up 23-19 in the opening set before the Fords stormed all the way back to knot the score at 24-24. The Diplomats and Fords were tied again at 25-25 before F&M took back-to-back points, including a kill by Grace Polisano, to win the set 27-25.

In the second set, the Diplomats found themselves down 8-3 early. F&M steadily worked its way back from that early deficit to cut the score to 17-16 in favor of the Fords. The Diplomats eventually tied Haverford 23-23 before the Fords took back-to-back points to get a win and even the match at one set apiece. 

Tied 8-8 to open set three, F&M went on a 7-1 run to take a 15-9 advantage. The Diplomats were able to ride that run to a 25-20 set victory, capped by a Polisano kill.

Haverford played F&M tight for a long time in set four, splitting the first 30 points, 15-15. The Diplomats went 10-3 down the stretch to stifle the Fords and take the set, 25-18,  and the match, 3-1.

Delaney Hahn led the team in kills and had 13 digs to give herself a double-double.

Grace Maggiore paced F&M's defense with 19 digs while notching 44 assists and three service aces on offense.

Match 2- F&M 3, Scranton 0

F&M opened its match with the Royals with a 14-13 advantage in the first set.  The Diplomats went on a 10-5 run to take a 24-18 lead, eventually taking the match, 25-20, on a Delaney Hahn kill.

Scranton hung with the Diplomats until deep into the second set, splitting the first 40 points, 20-20. F&M erupted for four straight points on its way to winning 25-21 on an Allison Franke clincher.

Set three saw the Diplomats jumped out to a quick 11-3 lead, coasting on that cushion to take the set, 25-15, capped by a Grace Maggiore service ace to complete the sweep of Scranton.

Franke paced the offense with 12 kills.

Carlita Bozzo had a team-high 11 digs.

F&M returns to action Saturday, Oct. 5th when the Diplomats head to Swarthmore for a double header with Swarthmore at 12:00 p.m. and Stockton at 2:30 p.m.
