COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – A late second-half run lifted Ursinus to a 74-62 win over Franklin & Marshall in Centennial Conference men's basketball action Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats fell to 7-10, 3-7 CC, while the Bears improved 9-8, 4-6 CC.

Ursinus went ahead 13-7 early in the game, before a Mike Rice triple brought F&M within a point, 17-16, at 15:26. The Diplomats stayed within two possessions with the Bears clinging to a 27-25 midway through the half. F&M went on an 8-3 run over the next six minutes and an Ignas Slyka jumper at 4:03 put the Diplomats up three, 33-30. The Bears countered with an 8-2 spurt to close out the half to go ahead 38-35 at the break.

Back-to-back threes from Rice and Justin Kupa to start the second put the Diplomats up three, 41-38, and threes from Les Thomas and Slyka extended F&M's lead to six, 47-41, at 17:16. F&M continued to lead over the next three minutes and held a 50-43 advantage at 14:41 before the Bears answered with a 12-2 run over four minutes to retake the lead for good. F&M came within two, 60-58, at 7:47 but the Bears pulled away with a 14-0 run during the next five minutes to secure the win.

Justin Kupa and Ignas Slyka both ended with 15 points to lead the Diplomats, while Mike Rice and Les Thomas ended with nine apiece.

Ursinus led in rebounds 41-31 and outshot the Diplomats 43%-42%.

The Diplomats return to action on Wednesday when F&M hosts Gettysburg at 8:00 p.m. and welcomes Washington to the Mayser on Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. game.
