COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Three players from Franklin & Marshall's women's basketball program picked up double-doubles to down Ursinus, 76-51, in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Saturday.
The Diplomats improved to 6-11, 4-8 CC while the Bears fell to 6-11, 5-7 CC.
Sarosha Parsons poured in F&M's first seven points as the Diplomats took an early 11-4 lead at 6:33. Ursinus chipped away to narrow the gap to 13-10, but the Diplomats responded by ending the frame on a 16-0 run to take a 26-10 advantage into the second quarter. Parsons scored four points in that stretch to tally 11 first-quarter points.
F&M continued its run into the second. An Emily Moran three-pointer and back-to-back Kenna Williams layups made the score 33-12 F&M at 8:16. The final eight minutes of the half saw an even 10-10 split between the Diplomats and Bears as F&M took a 43-22 deficit into the break.
Maggie White opened the second half with a three-pointer. Ursinus outscored the Diplomats 17-11 in the rest of the period, the only fame in which the Bears out-scored F&M. The Diplomats carried a 57-39 advantage into the final stanza.
The Diplomats kept the Bears at arm's reach in the fourth. After Lydia Konstanzer's layup at 3:07 narrowed the deficit to 71-51, F&M closed the game on a 5-0 run, including three from D'Naisha Bellamy-Greene, to ultimately take the 76-51 win.
Williams paced F&M with 23 points and 16 boards for her 10th double-double of the season. Ten of her 16 rebounds came on the offensive glass.
Parsons (15 points, 10 rebounds) and Kristin Hamill (12 points, 13 rebounds) also recorded double-doubles.
Maia Lockhart finished with six assists to accompany just one turnover.
The Diplomats dominated on the boards, out-rebounding the Bears, 58-30, including a 24-13 disparity on the offensive glass.
F&M knocked down 4-of-9 from behind-the-arc while holding Ursinus to a mark of 0-for-9 on three-pointers.
The Diplomats come home to host Gettysburg on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
