Diplomats Storm Back For Win Over McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Franklin & Marshall's women's basketball team overcame an 18-point deficit to down McDaniel, 60-51, in Tuesday night Centennial Conference (CC) action.

The Diplomats improved to 8-12, 6-9 CC while the Green Terror fell to 6-12, 3-11 CC.

McDaniel opened up the contest with a 9-0 run. A Sarosha Parsons free throw at 4:47 eventually opened up the scoring on F&M's side of the ledger. A Kenna Williams layup was the only field goal registered by the Diplomats in the frame, making the score 11-3 at 3:49. The Green Terror answered with a 5-0 run that extended into the second quarter.

The Green Terror extended their advantage over F&M to 18 points early in the second. D'Naisha Bellamy-Greene sunk a layup at 7:19 to ignite F&M on a 15-2 run to end the half, including a stretch of 13 unanswered points. The Diplomats cut the lead all the way down to 25-22 entering the break.

F&M and McDaniel traded baskets throughout most of the third quarter. Kristin Hamill tied and then gave the Diplomats their first lead of the game with a pair of free throws at 3:30 to make the score 34-33. After the Green Terror went back up to a four-point lead, 40-36, the Diplomats closed the frame with five unanswered points capped by a pair of Williams free-throws to enter the fourth up 41-40. Hamill poured in 11 points in the third.

The Diplomats kept their foot on the gas in the fourth, slowly expanding their lead throughout the period. F&M never trailed again as they outscored McDaniel 19-11 in the final stanza.

Hamill finished with a season-high 27 points for the Diplomats. The senior also corralled 12 rebounds for a double-double.

Williams tallied 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting. A season-high 19 boards, including 10 on the offensive glass, marked her 11th double-double of the season.

Parsons chipped in with seven points and seven boards along with four steals.

The Diplomats play their final CC road game of the 2019-20 campaign at Swarthmore in a 1:00 p.m. tilt.
