LANCASTER, Pa. -- Megan Jackson scored seven goals and handed out one assist to lead No. 4 Franklin & Marshall to 19-9 win over No. 24 Messiah in women's lacrosse action Wednesday evening. The Diplomats remained undefeated at 4-0, while the Falcons dropped to 2-2.
Messiah led 2-0 two minutes into the game and after the Diplomats went up 3-2, the Falcon netted a pair for a 4-3 lead at 20:11. F&M answered with a 7-1 run with four goals by Megan Jackson to take a 13-5 lead into the break.
Two from the Falcons to open the second half made 13-7, but the Diplomats countered with three straight -- two from Jackson -- for 16-7 advantage. F&M answered a goal by Messiah with two of their own to lead 18-8 and the teams traded goals during the final six minutes for the 19-9 final.
In addition to Jackson's seven goals, Marissa McGarrey netted four with three helpers and Ally Marino had a hat trick and Jane Cote assisted on four scores. Bridget Kane, Emily Mooney, Maisie O'Shea, Eileen Cuneo, Blair Atkins all struck once.
Mary Pat McKenna caused two turnovers and Maggie Hanzsche collected four ground balls to pace the defense. Marino had eight draws and McGarrey ended with five.
Emily Kitchin improved to 4-0 with five stops in 55 minutes of action. Heather Burnham took the loss with 13 saves.
The Diplomats led in draws, 18-12, shots 44-22, and went 15-for-16 in clear attempts.
F&M returns to action on Sat., March 14 when the Diplomats face Cortland St. at 12:00 p.m. at the U.S. Lacrosse Headquarters in Glencoe, Md.
