Women's Soccer Notches School Record 10th Shutout at Ursinus

Box Score

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Two goals from Meg O'Callahan helped the Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team defeat Ursinus 5-0 on Saturday. The victory kept the Diplomats (11-2-1, 5-2-1 CC) in third place in the Centennial Conference. It also marked the team's 10th shutout of the season, breaking the previous school record of nine which was set during the 1998 season.

Both of O'Callahan's goals came on penalty kicks as she converted those chances during the ninth and 19th minutes of action. It was part of an overall dominating first half for the Diplomats as they scored each of their five goals during the first half.

Sierra Brophy found the net for a Centennial Conference-leading 12th time this season, in between O'Callahan's two penalty kicks. Brophy scored despite four defenders surrounding her at the given moment.

Haley Barge continued her masterful season, adding to the scoring punch during the 29th minute with her eighth goal of the season. Barge is now tied for third place in the conference for total goals. She was able to find enough space around her lone defender to finish on the Diplomats' fourth goal of the contest.

The Diplomats' fifth goal came off a third penalty kick attempt taken by Alison Francis late in the first half. Francis' fifth goal of the season capped the scoring with just over one minute to play in the opening half.

F&M finished the contest with a 16-10 advantage in shots, including a 9-3 edge during the first half. Barge recorded a team-best six shots while Brophy attempted five more. The Diplomats' defense held Ursinus without a corner kick attempt while F&M racked up eight on the other side of the field.

Emily Senko made two saves in the first half to record the victory. Caton Raffensperger recorded five saves during the second half to polish off the shutout.

F&M's next task will be back on Tylus Field against Gettysburg this Wednesday at 7 p.m. That will be one of two home games this coming week as the Diplomats look to punch their ticket into the Centennial Conference Tournament during the final week of the regular season.
