Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. -- A first quarter goal from Jessica Miller was all the offense Franklin & Marshall needed in a 1-0 victory over Muhlenberg in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Wednesday afternoon at Tylus Field. The Diplomats (8-7, 4-5 CC) kept their postseason hopes alive with the victory, while Muhlenberg (5-10, 3-7 CC) was eliminated from the playoff race.
Jessica Miller got things started early, punching in an easy feed from Sydney Wieczkowski just 6:57 into the game for a 1-0 Diplomat lead.
Things stayed relatively quiet throughout the remainder of the half, as F&M led 5-2 in shots, but none of the quintet of attempts were on frame.
The second half was more of the same, as Sydney Lippe made one save in the third quarter during a 4-1 Muhls shooting stretch. A Sophie Carroll rip from inside the circle was knocked away in the fourth - the lone Diplomat shot on goal in the second stanza.
F&M held Muhlenberg to zero shots in the fourth quarter, coasting to victory on the back of the first period tally from Miller.
The Diplomats outshot Muhlenberg 8-6, and held a 5-4 edge in penalty corners. Miller and Carroll led F&M with three shots apiece.
Sydney Lippe (8-7) made one save for the shutout victory - her second in a row.
F&M finishes up its Centennial Conference slate at home on Saturday evening against McDaniel, beginning at 6:00pm at Tylus Field. The Diplomats will largely know their playoff fate by game time, needing losses from Gettysburg and Swarthmore paired with a win against the Green Terror to advance as the No. 5 seed in the conference tourney.
