No. 2 Blue Jays Slip Past Women's Soccer, 1-0

Box Score

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Franklin & Marshall came up just short in its upset bid against No. 2 Johns Hopkins, falling 1-0 in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Saturday afternoon at Tylus Field. The Diplomats (11-3-2, 5-3-2) had early chances, and held possession well for large portions of the game, but were unable to punch one in against the Blue Jays (14-0-2, 10-0 CC).

F&M was off to a hot start, as Haley Barge and Sierra Brophy both had shots inside the first 1:28. Brophy had the best chance of the half, and arguably F&M's best opportunity of the entire match, in the eighth minute. The sophomore forward tracked a perfectly weighted through ball into the box, and pinged her chance off the crossbar.

After absorbing early waves of pressure, the Blue Jays started to find their footing. Emily Senko was called on twice in a two minute span midway through the half to preserve the scoreless tie into the break.

Johns Hopkins finally broke through in the 50th minute of play, taking advantage of a deflection in the box to set up the game's only goal.

The two sides exchanged shots throughout the remainder of play, with Senko again coming up large in the 85th with back-to-back stops in an effort to keep the Diplomats within striking distance. The Blue Jays held possession to close out 1-0 final.

The Blue Jays outshot the Diplomats 18-13 on the day, including a 9-4 edge in shots on frame. Johns Hopkins also held a 7-1 advantage in corners.

Sierra Brophy led the way for F&M with five shots, while Alison Francis took three.

Emily Senko (3-3-1) made eight stops for the Diplomats.

Having clinched a CC playoff spot, F&M now awaits word of its first round opponent, pending other conference results on Saturday afternoon.
