Volleyball Celebrates Senior Day with Sweep of McDaniel

Box Score

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall volleyball team celebrated Senior Day with a sweep of McDaniel on Saturday (25-14, 25-20, 25-23). In picking up the Centennial Conference win, the Diplomats celebrated the careers of Carly Bozzo, Nicole Carey, and Allison Franke, along with student assistants Tahmir Brown and Samir Williams.

Fittingly enough, Bozzo got to celebrate her Senior Day with her 1,000th career dig. She totaled 17 for the match in becoming the 18th player in program history to reach that mark. Heading into the postseason, Bozzo has recorded 1,012 digs through 81 career matches. Franke and Carey also had big days on Senior Day as they finished with 11 and six kills, respectively. Franke add a service ace, solo block, and block assist to her line for a total of 13.5 points. In addition to the seniors setting the tone, Sydney Levins added eight kills on the afternoon. Annmarie Earley registered 28 assists.

The opening game was tied five times through the first 16 points before the Diplomats were able to break away. F&M ran off nine of the next 10 points to take command of the set in the eventual 25-14 win. The Diplomats led from the start during set two with five of the first six points. The Green Terror threatened to tie the game on two occasions, but the Diplomats were still holding a 20-13 advantage late before going up 2-0.

Saturday's third game was the closest of the afternoon. Tied at five-all early, the Diplomats took control and held a 15-7 lead and looked to be on the verge of a runaway set. However, McDaniel did not go away quietly as the Green Terror closed the gap to 17-14 at one point. McDaniel also saved four match points before a service error on the final point gave F&M the sweep on its home floor.

With the win, Franklin & Marshall closed the season with an 8-3 record on its home floor. One of those victories was a five-set thriller in late September against Gettysburg. The Diplomats and Bullets will now meet again in the Centennial Conference first round match that is set for next Wednesday inside the Mayser Center. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
