Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. -- Two second half goals by McDaniel downed Franklin & Marshall 2-0 in Centennial Conference (CC) play on Wednesday evening. With the loss, the Diplomats (8-1-1, 2-1-1 CC) dropped their first game of the season after beginning the season with a program-record nine game unbeaten streak.
F&M came out strong to start the first half, responsible for four of the match's first five shots and seven of the first nine. Sierra Brophy, Alison Francis, Meg O'Callahan, Emily Cleary, and Haley Barge all had chances in the first 32 minutes of play that required saves from the Green Terror keeper.
The Diplomats had a furious charge at the end of the half, as two of their three corner kicks of the day bookended a chance by Catie Kaseta to finish the period.
The second half yielded different results, as the home side put F&M on its heels. Emily Senko stood tall during one sequence, knocking away three rapid fire shots from McDaniel to keep the score knotted at zero. Senko again was called upon to make a pair of stops in the 61st and 62nd minute to keep things level.
Alison Francis gave F&M an opportunity shortly after, ripping off back to back shots in two minutes, but was unable to convert. McDaniel converted soon after in the 68th minute for a 1-0 advantage, then a 78th minute goal sealed the deal for the Green Terror.
F&M was outshot 15-12, including 11-4 in the second half. Francis led the way with four shots for the Diplomats, while Meg O'Callahan had three.
Emily Senko made six stops in her first career start.
The Diplomats continue their CC schedule at home on Saturday afternoon, facing Bryn Mawr at 6:00pm on Tylus Field.
