Box Score HAVERFORD, Pa. -- A fourth quarter goal by Haverford helped the Fords slip past Franklin & Marshall 1-0 on Wednesday evening in Centennial Conference (CC) play. The loss was the Diplomats third in a row, dropping them to 4-5 (0-3 CC) on the year.
A light first quarter led to a frantic second stanza, which F&M proved to be game for. Sydney Lippe turned away four shots on nine attempts to keep things level entering halftime, despite also giving up six penalty corners. Six of those nine Fords shots came during a flurry that lasted just over a minute just after the break.
The teams were again stymied in the third quarter, with only one shot combined between the sides.
The first shot of the fourth quarter broke the deadlock, giving Haverford a 1-0 lead just 2:50 into the frame. F&M's best chance at equalizing came on back-to-back shots by Maddie Bickel and Carolina Riley - both of which were turned aside by the Fords keeper.
All seven F&M shots were taken by three players - Carolina Riley (3), Darby Klopp (2), and Maddie Bickel (2). F&M trailed in shots 13-7 and in corners 14-7.
Sydney Lippe surrendered just the one goal, saving five shots.
F&M looks to turn the page on Saturday afternoon against Washington College, beginning at noon at Tylus Field.
