Women's Soccer Celebrates Senior Day With 5-0 Win

Box Score

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team celebrated its senior day in style as the Diplomats (9-1-1, 3-1-1 CC) cruised to a 5-0 shutout victory over visiting Bryn Mawr on Saturday evening. The Diplomats have now posted shutouts during eight of their first 11 matches.

Before the match, the team recognized and celebrated the careers of seniors Haley Barge, Sarah Marsan, Caton Raffensperger, and Maija Woodruff. That senior class certainly provided a lot of leadership during the Centennial Conference victory on Saturday.

Barge scored a pair of goals and assisted on another during a career night for the senior. Woodruff also tallied one of F&M's five helpers on the evening. Marsan got the start on defense during the lockdown bid while Raffensperger capped off the shutout during the final 29 minutes of game action.

Barge got her career night started early with a goal off the pass from Catie Kaseta during the 11th minute of play. Kaseta's helper was her fifth of the season. Delaney Bessel made the score 2-0 just before the half as Woodruff recorded the first assist of her career on Senior Night. Bri Skidmore was also credited with an assist on the play and she wasted little time starting the second half with a bang, scoring just 27 seconds after the break off of Barge's helper. Skidmore now has five goals and three assists on the year.

Barge continued her torrid offensive evening with her second goal during the 60th minute of play. Barge has now scored in four of the team's last five matches and has a total of 11 points over that span. Meg O'Callahan was credited with the assist after her initial shot was saved. Neverthless, O'Callahan would get her goal during the 63rd minute of play off a direct kick just outside of the 18.

O'Callahan now has four goals and 10 assists this season. Her 10 assists are double the next closest player in the conference, which is her own teammate Lainie Anderson. O'Callahan is currently fourth in the conference in points as teammate Sierra Brophy leads that category with 23 on the year. The Diplomats currently have three of the top five point producers in the conference as Barge also jumped into that group following Saturday's action.

Franklin & Marshall finished the contest with a 24-5 edge in shots and 5-1 advantage in corner kicks. Emily Senko got the start in goal and stopped all three shots that she faced before Raffensperger went untested over the final 29 minutes.

Women's soccer will now head back on the road this coming Wednesday as the Diplomats travel to Haverford for a 4 p.m. start. F&M returns to Tylus Field next Saturday for a 3 p.m. start against Swarthmore. That match will be played as a part of the College's TrueBlue Weekend.
