The Diplomats dominated the first half of play, racking up 13 unanswered shots and 8 penalty corners in the first quarter. It was F&M's 18th shot that was the lucky one, as Carolina Riley knocked in a loose ball near goal from a 1-0 advantage at the 25:09 mark.
That 1-0 scoreline held true through the end of the half and through the third quarter until a quick burst of scoring allowed the Diplomats to breathe easier with much needed insurance goals.
Erin Corrigan gave the Diplomats a quick score at the 50:14 mark, deflecting in a rip from Amelia McCarthy for a 2-0 lead.
F&M tacked on one more just over a minute later, as a one handed, spinning assist from Darby Klopp set up Avery Niedland at the near post for the 3-0 final.
The Diplomats secured a wide advantage in shots with 25 over Washington's four. Amelia McCarthy led the team with six, while Erin Corrigan recorded five in her first start of the season. Sophie Carroll and Maddie Bickel each had four shots apiece.
F&M also dominated in penalty corners during the contest, securing 15 compared to Washington's two.
F&M's defense allowed goalkeeper Sydney Lippe made one save for the victory. Jorja Pastore saw her first action in the cage, playing the final 3:19 to complete the shutout.
The Diplomats will hit the road against Dickinson in CC action on Oct. 13 at 4:00 PM.
