Men's Basketball Can't Catch Lancaster Bible, Falls 80-73 in Marshall Championship

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall men's basketball team mounted a furious second half comeback against Lancaster Bible on Saturday evening in the championship game of the William Marshall Tip-Off Tournament. The Diplomats outscored the Chargers 43-30 during the second half, but could not climb out of their halftime deficit as they fell by an 80-73 final.

Solomon Mathis was named to the All-Tournament team after scored 12 points and dishing out five assists. That performance came just one day after scoring 16 points in the victory against FDU-Florham. Mark Suchy led the Diplomats in scoring with 18 points as he just missed a double-double with nine rebounds. John Seidman finished with 13 and seven, while Sam Davison and Justin Peirce scored nine and eight, respectively, off the bench.

Lancaster Bible made its huge run midway through the opening half as the teams were tied at seven. The Chargers extended their lead to double figures with 15 of the next 20 points and led by as many as 22 points in the first half before taking a 50-30 lead into the locker room.

F&M had the lead down to just a 69-67 margin after Davison's corner three with just under five minutes to play, but the Diplomats could never completely erase that deficit that they were facing. A layup from Pierce made the score 76-73 with just 1:35 to play in regulation, but LBC scored the final four points in the eventual 80-73 win.

The Diplomats shot an outstanding 59.3% from the field during the second half, knocking down a trio of treys. Such scored 12 of his points during the final 20 minutes, while all of Davison's points came during the second half.

Men's basketball will continues its four-game home stretch next Wednesday when the team welcomes Albright to the Mayser Center for a 7 p.m. start.
