Box Score GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- Meg O'Callahan's 2nd minute goal held up in Franklin & Marshall's 1-0 victory over Gettysburg in Centennial Conference (CC) First Round playoff action on Tuesday evening. The Diplomats will now face the No 1. seed and No. 2 ranked Johns Hopkins on Friday evening in Baltimore.
O'Callahan wasted little time getting F&M on the board. The junior midfielder picked off a clear from a defender, and laced a shot from the top of the box past the keeper for a 1-0 lead just 1:31 into the contest.
Gettysburg immediately answered, but Emily Senko was more than game - stopping two Bullets shots just seven minutes later to keep things level. The freshman backstop made three more saves in the half to preserve the one goal lead into halftime.
The back-and-forth game didn't stop in the second half, as a frantic ten minute span after the 50th minute saw Gettysburg with seven shots and four corner kicks, countered with three additional shots from F&M. Senko loomed large over the sequence, making four stops along the way.
F&M's defense held strong over the final 12 minutes of the contest, containing the Bullets' offense to zero shots for the 1-0 shutout.
The Diplomats trailed in shots 18-13 and corners 12-3. F&M was led by Sierra Brophy, Haley Barge, and Meg O'Callahan with three shots each.
Emily Senko (4-3-1) made eight stops to preserve the shutout.
The win was F&M's first in Centennial Conference postseason play in the team's history, and first in conference playoff play since winning 2-0 over Dickinson in the MAC West Playoff in 1989. It's the first postseason win for the Diplomats in 19 years, when they beat Widener 5-0 in the ECAC Championship held in Lancaster.
