F&M's Cold Stretch Continues Against Dickinson, 61-54

Box Score

CARLISLE, Pa. - A 21-8 run by Dickinson spanning the first and second halves gave the Devils an insurmountable lead in a 61-54 victory over Franklin & Marshall in Centennial Conference (CC) play on Tuesday evening. The Diplomats (2-4, 0-2 CC) went on a late 7-0 run to cut their deficit in half, but ran out of time against the Devils (3-3, 2-0 CC) on the road.

Mark Suchy was hot early for the Diplomats, scoring seven of the team's 13 points through the first five minutes of play to give F&M an early 13-9 lead with 15:10 left in the first half. An 11-2 spurt by the Devils over the next six minutes and change turned that four point lead into a five point deficit with 9:46 to play. A pair of free throws and a layup on back-to-back possessions trimmed the lead to one at 26-25 with 4:13 remaining, but a 7-1 run by Dickinson to close the half pushed the lead to 33-26 at the break.

Dickinson continued that run with a 14-7 stretch to open the second half to expand its lead to 14 at 47-33 with 12:15 to play. Solomon Mathis ended the stretch with an end-to-end effort, grabbing a board and hitting a fast break jumper with 11:41 left. F&M clawed back to single digits with a Jaylen Green fast break layup with 8:58 remaining in the half to narrow the margin to 49-40.

F&M was struck by a cold shooting stretch, who only scored one field goal from the field for the next 6:37 of play, allowing the Devils lead to balloon back to 61-47 with 1:25 remaining.

A quick 7-0 spurt on the backs of a John Seidman triple, a Mark Suchy layup, and a Riiny Giir jumper capped off a madcap stretch that saw the Diplomats rip off nine shots in just over a minute. The late comeback ran out of time with a 61-54 final.

The Diplomats shot just 20-62 (32.3%) from the floor, 2-19 (10.5%) from three, and struggled again from the charity stripe to the tune of 12-26 (46.2%). F&M held a 26-9 edge in foul shots, but struggled to contain the Dickinson bench with a 26-10 disadvantage in scoring.

Mark Suchy led the Diplomats with 15 points and six rebounds, while Josh Parra (ten points, six boards) and John Seidman (ten points, eight rebounds, three blocks) joined him in double-figures.

F&M looks to get back in the win column on Saturday afternoon with a 3:00 p.m. tilt against Haverford in CC action.
