Diplomats Cruise Over Owls, 69-29

Box Score

BRYN MAWR, Pa. -- Franklin & Marshall scored the first 13 points of the contest and never looked back in a 69-29 victory over Bryn Mawr in Centennial Conference (CC) play on Thursday evening. It was a well-balanced effort from the Diplomats (4-4, 2-2 CC) who only had two players in double-figures but eight scoring more than five points in the win over the Owls (3-4, 0-4 CC).

Maia Lockhart dropped eight of her ten points within the first few minutes, leading F&M to an early 13-0 lead midway through the first quarter. Lockhart's second bucket of the game gave the Diplomats a double-digit lead with 7:07 left, then her second triple of the game with 5:28 remaining pushed the advantage to a baker's dozen.

After the lead was trimmed back to ten with 8:15 left in the second quarter at 20-10, F&M held Bryn Mawr without a bucket during a 15-0 run that spanned nearly the remainder of the stanza for an eventual 35-12 halftime lead.

The Owls cut the lead to 21 with 6:11 left, before the Diplomats went on another 10-0 tear. A pair of Natalie Kolb buckets from beyond pushed the F&M lead to 50-19 with 4:07 remaining - a 31 point lead that held through the end of the quarter.

After Bryn Mawr clawed back to 28 down with 8:47 left, F&M held the Owls without a field goal for the remainder of the period, closing on a 14-2 run to finish off the 69-29 victory. Molly Flannigan polished off the victory with a pair of layups to close the run and give F&M its largest lead of the contest.

F&M shot 24-64 (37.5%) from the field, while a stingy defense held Bryn Mawr to just 12 field goals on 23.5% shooting. The Diplomats dominated in points off turnovers (23-2), 2nd chance points (20-4), points in the paint (26-12), and bench points (30-6).

Natalie Kolb and Maia Lockhart led the Diplomats with ten points apiece, while D'Naisha Bellamy-Greene ended with nine. Molly Flanagan led the team with seven rebounds in just nine minutes of play. Jaclyn Feit's swatted away seven Owls' shots, good enough for fourth in Diplomat history.

F&M finishes off its December schedule on Saturday afternoon with a 1:00 p.m. tilt against Haverford in CC action.
