Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. - Ten different Diplomats found twine as No. 1 Franklin & Marshall upended McDaniel 16-5 in its season opener. F&M improved to 1-0, while the Green Terror dropped to 0-1.
F&M netted the first nine goals of the game, cruising to an early, unsurmountable lead. Those nine goals came from the sticks of seven different players, as Maisie O'Shea, Sarah Delaney, Kate McLam, Madison Bray, Marissa McGarrey, Nancy Taylor, and Ally Marino all got in on the action during the first sixteen minutes of game time.
McDaniel pulled one back with 13:35 remaining in the first half, but F&M quickly shut the door on both the game and the Green Terror's starting goalie. Maddy Birch's unassisted tally with 10:05 left chased McDaniel's backstop. The Diplomats weren't friendly to the backup either, pouring in four more goals before the end of the half for a 14-1 advantage at the break.
Ally Marino netted two more goals in the second half for a 16-1 advantage with 17:59 remaining. McDaniel pulled four goals back in the waining minutes of the game for the 16-5 final. Marino scored a team-high four goals on five shots, tacking on two assists. Sarah Delaney, Kate McLam, Marissa McGarrey all added two goals, while six other Diplomats added one. McLam led the team with three assists.
