Women's Lacrosse Celebrates Senior Day with 16-6 Win vs. McDaniel

Box Score

LANCASTER, Pa. – The No. 1-ranked Franklin & Marshall women's lacrosse team picked up its second win of the season against McDaniel, securing a 16-6 final inside Shadek Stadium. Getting to play on its home field for the first time this season, Saturday's contest between the Diplomats (2-0, 1-0 CC) and Green Terror (1-2, 1-3 CC) is the game that counts towards the final Centennial Conference standings.

Six different players finished with multiple goals for the F&M attack. Nancy Taylor led the way with three goals and two assists while Megan Jackson recorded a second F&M hat trick to go along with her one assist. Gillian Brennan, Kate McLam, Ally Marino, and Marissa McGarrey all tallied two goals during the victory.

The Diplomats raced out to a 3-0 lead after Maisie O'Shea converted a free-position attempt. McGarrey and McLam scored just 36 seconds apart during the opening three minutes to get the attack rolling. McDaniel answered with back-to-back goals, but a 4-0 run from the Diplomats helped to keep the Green Terror at bay for the rest of the afternoon. Marino, Brennan, McGarrey, and Taylor spurred that offensive surge as F&M led 8-4 heading into halftime.

Franklin & Marshall took even greater control of the contest during the second half as the hosts got a pair of goals just 25 seconds apart from Jackson and Sarah Delaney. The Green Terror brought the game to 10-5; however, the Diplomats came right back with six unanswered tallies during the eventual 16-6 win. Franklin & Marshall's final goal came with 9:25 remaining in regulation time. The Diplomats finished the contest with a 44-16 advantage in shots.

Emily Kitchin picked up the win in goal as she made eight saves during her 55-plus minutes of game action. Molly Donatelli finished out the game in the crease and made one final save. Erin Phillips and Marino both had a pair of caused turnovers to help in those defensive efforts. The Diplomats dominated the ground ball battle with a 30-12 advantage. Jackson and Brennan headlined those efforts with by reclaiming the possession seven and six times, respectively. The 24 draws were evenly split between the two sides as Blair Atkins gained possession for the Diplomats on 11 of those occasions.

With the Centennial Conference opener under its belts, the women's lacrosse team will now head back on the road next Saturday as the No. 1 Diplomats travel to Washington College. Opening draw in that Centennial Conference matchup is set for 12 p.m. in Chestertown.
