Box Score CARLISLE, Pa. – The No. 1 Franklin & Marshall women's lacrosse team outscored Dickinson 9-0 in the second half to turn a narrow 3-2 lead into a 12-2 triumph. The Diplomats (3-0, 2-0 CC) scored on over half of their shots during the final 30 minutes to pull away from the Red Devils (0-3, 0-2 CC) in what officially counted as a non-conference clash between the traditional Centennial Conference foes.
Marissa McGarrey and Megan Jackson each recorded hat tricks for the Diplomats in the win. Maddy Birch and Tabitha Rodriguez also scored multiple goals under the lights. F&M finished the contest with a 31-16 advantage in shots as goalie Emily Kitchin stopped seven of the nine shots on goal she faced throughout the contest.
The host Red Devils had an early 1-0 lead after a free-position goal while the Diplomats searched for their footing the attacking zone. Their first breakthrough came just under a minute after a timeout as Jackson scored her first of the night on pass from McGarrey. Birch scored just over three minutes later and eventually made the score 3-1 with her second goal of the night before the Red Devils climbed back within a goal. That goal, which turned out to be Dickinson's last of the night, came with just 13 seconds remaining in the opening half.
Getting time to regroup at the intermission, the Diplomats' attack exploded in the opening minutes of the second half with three goals in a span of 1:13. Nancy Taylor, Kate McLam, and Rodriguez made it 6-2 less than three minutes into the half. McGarrey's second goal later made it 7-2 with just over five minutes gone by in the second half.
The defenses started to settle in after those high-scoring moments, but F&M turned to its leading attackers to restart the offensive surge as Jackson scored twice while McGarrey added another midway through the half. McGarrey capped her hat trick while 6:46 remaining in the contest while Rodriguez scored just 46 seconds later to put the Diplomats up by the eventual 12-2 final.
In addition to her pair of goals, Rodriguez had six of F&M's nine draw controls to help her side maintain possession throughout the contest. The Diplomats also caused eight Dickinson turnovers while scooping up 19 ground balls. Kitchin led the visitors with four ground balls in the crease. She made six of her seven saves during the second half as the Red Devils were held scoreless for over 30 minutes of playing time to close the contest.
Franklin & Marshall will return to Centennial Conference action this Saturday as the Diplomats head to Washington College for a 12 p.m. opening draw. F&M and Dickinson will play their game that counts towards the final Centennial Conference standings next Saturday, April 24.
