No. 1 Women's Lacrosse Cruises Past Ursinus

Box Score

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Fifteen different Diplomats scored as the Franklin & Marshall women's lacrosse team rolled to a 24-2 win at Ursinus on Wednesday. The top-ranked Diplomats (5-0, 3-0 CC) scored the first 11 goals of the afternoon and closed the game with 10 unanswered to remain undefeated.

Maddy Birch (3 goals, 4 assists), Tabitha Rodriguez (3 goals), Sydney Lowe (3 goals), and Marissa McGarrey (3 goals, 1 assist) all posted hat tricks for the Diplomats. McGarrey has now recorded a hat trick during each of the last three games and has multiple goals every game this season. Rodriguez and Birch posted their second straight three-goal performances while Lowe's trio of tallies were the first goals of her F&M career.

Birch and Gillian Brennan (1 goal) set up the attack with a team-leading four assists each. Kate McLam (2 goals) and Ally Marino (1 goal) also tallied multiple helpers. Sarah Bowyer, Emily Mooney, Maisie O'Shea, Nancy Taylor, Megan Jackson, and Juliann Lisovicz also recorded goals throughout the dominating victory.

Even with a massive 38-5 advantage in shots, the Diplomats were very efficient on the attack. They put all but five of those attempts on target and scored on nearly two-thirds of their shot attempts in addition to an 86% shots on goal mark. Sixteen of the Diplomats' 24 goals came with an assist leading to the eventual tally.

When the Bears did have possession, the F&M defense caused 13 of Ursinus' 23 turnovers. Franklin & Marshall took very good care of the ball by winning 16 of the 27 draw controls and only committing six turnovers all afternoon. Rodriguez and Marino both forced a pair of takeaways on the defensive end.

Five different Diplomats secured the possession multiple times off the draw while four others finished with two or more ground balls. In goal, reigning Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week Emily Kitchin made two saves during the opening half before three more Diplomat goalies went untested throughout the final 30 minutes.

Today's contest was the first of two this week from Franklin & Marshall. The Diplomats will be back in action this Saturday at Dickinson. Opening draw in that Centennial Conference contest is set for 3 p.m.
