No. 14 Men's Squash Starts New Year with 7-2 Victory vs. Middlebury

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Franklin & Marshall men's squash team got off to a strong start in the 2022 calendar year with a 7-2 victory against Middlebury on Thursday. The match kicked off a span three contests this week as the Diplomats will take on host Williams on Friday before returning home for a rescheduled match with St. Lawrence on Sunday.

The Diplomats were particularly storng at the top of the lineup where they swept all three matches as Petr Nohel, Aryan Parekh, and Teddy Eill took the first through third matches on the ladder. Nohel and Eill both swept their opponents while Parekh dropped just one game that went to extra points before securing his win at No. 2.

Allen Tompkins (No. 6), Marco DiFilippo (No. 8), and Sam Freed (No. 9) also contributed three-game wins to the Diplomats' victory. F&M's hardest fought victory of the afternoon came from Michael Tallentire as he prevailed in a five-game thriller at No. 5. Tallentire never trailed in games as he won the first and the third. He put an exclamation point on the win with his strongest showings during the third and fifth games which resulted in 11-6 scores in his favor. For good measure, Juan Hinostroza added one last sweep for the team at No. 10 as he dropped just four points during his exhibition victory. During each of Middlebury's victories the Diplomats were able to secure games before coming up just short in the final points.

The men's team will battle No. 16 Williams tomorrow at 2 p.m. to conclude its trip up north. When the Diplomats return to Lancaster, they will take on No. 23 St. Lawrence. That match is set for 12 p.m. noon on the Diplomats' home courts.
