Box Score

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Franklin & Marshall set a new school record for three-pointers in a game, as a long-range barrage took down Muhlenberg 73-54 in Centennial Conference (CC) play on Monday evening. The Diplomats (6-9, 3-5 CC) were led past the Mule (5-8, 2-4 CC) zone defense by an outstanding effort from John Seidman. Seidman set a new CC record for assists by a freshman with a dozen dimes in the contest, also tying for third all-time in Diplomat history with Georgio Milligan's 12 assist effort against the Mules in 2012.

F&M went to work after falling behind 7-5, piecing together a 10-0 run that pushed them ahead 15-7 with 14:50 remaining in the half. John Seidman facilitated the charge, passing out dimes on the first two buckets, then ending the run with a layup of his own. Muhlenberg answered back with a 10-0 spurt of its own to retake a 17-15 advantage wiith 9:33 left. Solomon Mathis tied the game on the next possession, then F&M went on a 12-0 spree from beyond the arc. Threes from Sam Davidson, Mathis, Riiny Giir, then Davidson again gave the Diplomats a 29-18 edge. The Diplomats held onto that lead, taking a 41-29 edge into the break.

Muhlenberg clawed back to within nine with 14:27 to play, but the Diplomats were up to the challenge. F&M ripped off a 14-0 stretch, as Omar Nichols caught fire for three triples and Seidman was responsible for three helpers during the run which put F&M up by its largest lead of the contest at 60-37 with 10:37 left. The Mules closed the gap to 15 with 3:58 remaining, but the Diplomats shut the door with a Solomon Mathis three-pointer less than a minute later.

F&M shot 16-30 from beyond the arc, punishing the Muhlenberg zone defense with decisive passing and sharpshooting. The team bested Muhlenberg 45.8%-41.2% from the field, outrebounding the Mules by 17 (39-22). Seidman's dozen assists helped F&M set up 21 of its 27 made field goals.

Solomon Mathis led the way with 16 points, hitting 4-7 from beyond. Omar Nichols hit four three pointers for his 12 points, while Riiny Giir hit double-figures for the fourth straight game with 11. Josh Parra poured in a nine point, seven rebound effort in just 20 minutes off the bench, while Sam Davison hit 3-6 from three for his nine points.

The Diplomats look to utilize the momentum against No. 12 Johns Hopkins on Wednesday evening at the Mayser Center.
